So... this is probably kinda trite, but what do people think is the best dim sum in SF? and also best value?
i just moved into the city from berkeley, so i'm eager to try out all the places here. i've only so far been to places in chinatown (when just wandering around). nothing spectacular so far, but i haven't tried many. gold mountain was pretty good.
i hear good reviews about places like canton, yank sing, new asia, etc. would like fellow enthusiast opinions!

Thu, May 27, 2004 - 8:53 AMYes - the only place where you can watch 4 generation Chinese families intermix with VCs. Shrimp rolls are great there.

Fri, June 11, 2004 - 9:43 AMLOL! I will NEVER forget the disgruntled and disturbed look on that asian man's face as two hungry white girls sat down at his table and had them some dim sum at You's. I hope we didn't ruin his breakfast with all our pleasurable sounds of enjoying our dim sum...! -

Re: Best SF dim sum
Tue, December 7, 2004 - 3:54 PMi tend to like small places, so usually go to Do Ho with my mom. i'll sometimes go to gold mountain...don't like the rice crepes there tho, pretty tasteless, but i like the variety that big places have.
love Harbor Village down in embarcadero, but pricey. really scandalized the place when i went with a group of leather daddies and their boys. haven't been able to wear my leather there ever again.
Yank Sing is ok, as long as you stay away from the normal dim sum, their plain dim sum is just nasty, stick with their fancy stuff, that's where they really shine.

Re: Best SF dim sum
Tue, December 7, 2004 - 4:10 PMIn Chinatown, I go to Kay Cheung (Jackson @ Kearney), Yong Kee (a block up Jackson from KC and across the street), or Lychee Garden (Powell @ Broadway). You's (there are a couple locations in Chinatown) has decent takeout.
In the Richmond, I go to Good Luck (Clement @ 9th). Also, mostly take-out, but the biggest portions at the best prices in SF.

Thu, January 13, 2005 - 8:50 PMUnlikely location, extremely fresh, unbelievably cheap ...
www.cantonsf.com/
freezing cold inside but I'd wear a jacket and eat down there any day over some nasty tasting joint with a more comfortable interior. -

Fri, March 11, 2005 - 1:30 AMI second the recommendation for Harbor Village. Go early on the weekends. Their XO Pan fried rice noodles are killer. Try the beef shank too..
