Re: sweets/cakes?
Tue, June 15, 2004 - 10:22 PMWish I lived in SF (really) but I can rec some of my fav dim sum sweets!! Please excuse the terrible spelling I have no idea how to spell them. Dan Tat (Egg tart) is my absolute fav! I also love the lotus seed and the red bean paste pastry which is different then the "din du ji" red bean sesame balls. Oh and also the red bean paste buns, I can't remember their name too. I love it but many don't is the sweet tofu.
Hope that helps. I wish I could remember the name of the bakery I used to haunt in Oakland, sorry.

Thu, June 24, 2004 - 10:27 PMthe Eastern bakery on Grant on chinatown have these things called ( i think) pancakes- they have lotus paste in them and they are absolutely fab. Maybe they are lotus paste pancakes- they are a little oily, but they are the best. Everything they have in the bakety is so good- they make their own almond cookies- mmmm

Re: sweets/cakes?
Wed, July 14, 2004 - 1:57 PMThere is a resturant in a seedy area of china town called the Tea garden room. They have these things called "Dim su gak." They are awesome. Very good. Also they have awesome Dim Sum. Try there. :)
Good Luck!

Re: sweets/cakes?
Sun, January 16, 2005 - 1:28 PMGolden Gate Bakery, on Grant Ave is generally regarded as having the best egg custard tarts in the state. But also, they have other great stuff. Lines down the block if you are unfortunate enough to get there when it's busy. Little old ladies will cut in too; you have to watch it.
Many many great bakeries but most of my faves are in the L.A. area. They had lots of the new style stuff.
