where oh where can one obtain these delectable soup-enhanced pockets of love? SO far, the only place I've found in the city is waaaaay out there on Balboa, and a bit of a haul for me, from La Mission.

I believe that is the same thing as a " Shanghai Dumpling". Steamed, Flavored with ginger and a vinegar sauce on the side. bite into it too quickly and you get drenched with liquid!
Pronounce it like "shoe lim Bow (like a ship)" and any dim sum place serves it. Better service when you know the names... -

Thu, March 31, 2005 - 1:24 AMYeah they're delicious! In addition to what MissErika wrote, most places will respond to "siu loong bau"... I wish I could draw arrows for the pitch changes in the Cantonese accentuation, but just say them as quick single syllables and the servers will know what you're talking about. Had some at Harbor Village (four-emb) the other day. Good stuff :)

Tue, November 1, 2005 - 10:03 PMShanghai 1930 has delicious shaolung bao. Shanghai 1930 is located on 133 Steuart Street, down from Mission St., very close to the Ferry Buiding. Try the triple steamer, with one wooden basked of shaolung bao, one of har gaw (shrimp dumplings) and one wooden basked of peashoot and scallop dumplings. it comes with three dipping sauces, ginger with black vinegar, soy sauce, and chinese hot mustard, and there are 12 dumplings in all, so it's very good to share.

Sometimes they have them at Good Luck dim sum on Clement (excellent hole-in-the-wall popular w/ locals.) It's worth the trip for the best ever egg custard tarts and excellent har gow & fun kor.
